I always thoutht the iconic L.A. garlic restaurant (yes, for real)... The Stinking Rose... was misnamed, since garlic is a lily, not a rose. (I believe it's no longer there). I have long thought that both garlic and onions, along with indoor plumbing, are true hallmarks of genuine civilization. Sine qua non, even.
