Rove No-Show cannot stand
Rove's no-show before the judiciary committee today may be no surprise. But it seems to me no exaggeration whatever to say that if the Congress does not enforce, with or without the cooperation of the Obama justice department, its right to compel administration witnesses to testify about matters of legitimate investigative interest, the investigative power of the Congress will have effectively been brought to an end. If that happens, it will be yet another key element of our constitution which the Bush administration will be recorded by future historians as having destroyed. Whether these incidences of constitutional destruction turn out to be temporary or permanent, it seems to me, will depend very largely on the actions of Attorney General Holder's Justice Department.
