The Mad King acts

It's so obvious I almost feel foolish saying it. But imposing tariffs on our principal allies out of sheer narcissistic pique will go down in history as one of the stupidest presidential acts ever. Why the spineless toadies in the Congress didn't long since take away what is supposed to be an in extremis emergency delegation of a clear and exclusive Article I power (the power to devise and impose taxes)... to the Executive, when it first became apparent that the stupidest man ever to hold the White House had glommed on to the fact he had this power, I can't imagine. (He did it in a limited way in Shitshow I, so no one can claim they didn't know). Even in the first two years of the Biden term, it would've been quite feasible to pass a simple, 20 or so word statute, revoking this power, and Biden would've signed it, I'm sure. But as far as I can remember no one even tried. Now we pay the price. An argument can be made that Hawley/Smoot was a leading cause of WW2. Why anyone would gamble with the exercise of the power to massively fuck up the economy and destabilize the whole world is beyond me; but I find almost all the actions of the Mad King not only deplorable but incomprehensible. Even in terms of the interests of his own supporters, the ones he cares about (the billionaire donor class), it's foolish and stupid beyond belief.
