With less than 100 vote margin and 96% reporting, Mississippi is actually more likely to be the 55th Senate seat for Democrats than Alaska, where the margin is about <700 votes. And this despite the fact that outlying votes are mostly Alaska native regions which will go for Peltola. And the reason is ranked choice. Even if most of the remaining votes don't specify a second choice, the combination of the "fake Sullivan" and another Republican, Heikes, is about 4%, and it seems likely that Daniel S. Sullivan (incumbent) will get enough more votes from the ranked choice system than Peltola can spare. So we are likely to lose Alaska. But considering that the only states considered in play that we didn't win (apart from MS) are Alaska, Nebraska (Independent candidate), and Florida (heartbreaking squeaker), and Dems won all the rest, including defeating Collins in ME, electing the first openly gay candidate (NH), defeating Darline the Moron in SC, plus NC, GA, TX, KS, IA, MN, & OH. By any standard a fantastic result and an honest to god blue tsunami.
Lessons learned: compete hard everywhere. And consolidate around one candidate in each, even if it's an Independent that can be counted on to caucus with us. We lost Nebraska, but it's at least partly because we didn't even try.
