You hear a lot about the Overton Window and all that, but it really is true that people are worn down by repeated reports of the same kinds of crimes and outrages, over and over, week after week, month after month. What would have been a huge presidency ending scandal at any time before Trump becomes just the affaire du jour now. But we need to wake up. There are cracks in the MAGA coalition, which has only a bare majority in Congress anyway. It can be chipped away at. Public outrage at the corruption, cruelty, incompetence, and arrogance can grow to a relentless and unstoppable force. Yes, they have a pretty much supplicant Supreme Court. But the time to double down is now. This regime is, more than ever, an existential threat to the continuity of small-r republican government in this country, for real, no kidding around. And we need to keep a steady drumbeat of demand for his impeachment and removal from office until he is gone. If we fail, we fail, but it should not be for want of a continued and determined effort. We, the strong majority coalition of everyone who believes in the constitutional principles which are our birthright, will have a monumental task to restore and reinforce democratic governance in our country once Trumpism is in the rearview, but we can't even start until we have gotten rid of him and defeated his "movement." There can be no respite until that is done. So much work to do that can't even start until then.
