3 good quotes today

I subscribe to a daily quote service. Here are 3 from today.

Love is the difficult realization that something other than oneself is real.
- Iris Murdoch
I find that a great part of the information I have was acquired by looking up something and finding something else on the way.
- Franklin P. Adams

Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself.
- Leo Tolstoy

The second one strikes me as a pretty good description of the curious mind engaging in this new activity we've invented: web browsing.

  1. Re: the Adams quote. People are able to do this with books, in hard copy, as well. Encyclopedias and dictionaries are particularly good books to do it in. Putting all that online sometimes allows you to "browse," but only if you deliberately decide to browse, since, in the digitized world, one can have only one page open and readable at a time.

  2. To comment on the comment: I realize this, and I'm sure that's what Franklin Adams was referring to. But my amplification was to point out that this process is augmented and expanded by our modern information technology, for better and worse, but I think more better than worse.
