It's a question of fundamental trust

Due to some somewhat complicated interactions with inheriting an estate, I need to hire a tax accountant this year for the first time in a while. I have a referral from my estate lawyer (which I have some doubt about, but anyway). Here's my point. I used to use my Dad's old accountant, but he doesn't practice here anymore and I found I could do it myself in recent years with TurboTax. Pretty sure he was a Republican. Voted for Bush, I imagine. And Romney. I had no problem with that. He was an accountant, not a buddy, and not a political advisor. And I was and am friends with old fashioned Republicans whose ideology I disagree with but with whom I share a fundamental belief in our system of law.

But this year I find myself panning to vet the guy with one question. Did you vote for Trump? In 2016 or 2020? Or, heaven forfend, 2024? Because in all honesty if he did, that so destroys any confidence I might have in his judgment that I'd pass on hiring him. No question. I would. Will, if it happens. I don't like to make politics a litmus. But here's the thing. This isn't politics. It's do you believe in the rule of law, limits to executive power set forth in the Constitution? Or not? If not, I don't trust you. Not with my money, not with anything. I really don't want to have anything at all to do with you. There is is. The truth.
